Volunteer Spotlight

Melanie Holte

Volunteer Melanie Holte How long have you been @ CWC?
I've been at Chintimini for collectively 3 years.

What shift(s) are you on?
I started on Sunday PM and now I'm on Wednesday AM!

Do you have a field of study (past or present)?
I studied Fish & Wildlife Science at OSU with an emphasis on Avian Ecology.

Are you employed outside of your CWC volunteer position?
I work at the First Alt Co-op.

What is your favorite part about volunteering at CWC?
My favorite part of volunteering at Chintimini is that I'm helping provide sick/injured/orphaned animals a safe place to heal. I also LOVE crows and skunks!

Do you have a favorite or most memorable patient (past or present)?
My most memorable patient was an Anna's Hummingbird that I brought in because it had been tangled in a fruit tree net. If it weren't for this little resilient creature I wouldn't have resumed my time at Chintimini! I had taken a year off for graduation, traveling, and jobs. When I found this bird, everything that I missed about Chintimini flooded back and I started Wednesday AM the next week! I also got to release the hummingbird back with full health!

What is something that your shift may not know about you?
I'm an open book so I think they know most about me. Maybe that I LOVE pineapple on pizza?

What book is currently on your nightstand?
The Tao of Pooh. Great, simple, philosophical book set to a classic animated series from my childhood.

What music is in your car right now?
Currently I have Fever Ray playing nonstop in my car.

Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Springfield, OR.
