Fall 2020 Interns
Meet Our Interns
Learn more about some of our interns and the amazing work they do!
Lauren
Wildlife Care Intern
Lauren applied for an internship with CWC as a way to gain hands-on experience with animals and increase her knowledge of animal identification. She hopes to use this experience to jump start her career in marine or land animal care at a rehabilitation center or conservation organization. She also has a passion for wildlife photography and plans to incorporate it into her career.
Grace
Wildlife Care Intern
Grace graduated from Western Oregon University earlier this year with a degree in biology. Prior to interning at CWC, Grace volunteered at Heartland Humane Society where she discovered her love of veterinary medicine and plans to attend vet school in the near future. In the mean time, she enjoys assisting in the rehabilitation process and working with wildlife.
Elena
Wildlife Care Intern
Elena is going into her third year at OSU as a Biology major with a Pre-Vet option and Chemistry minor. Her previous experience includes working at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans for 6+ years as an animal husbandry volunteer. Elena’s future goals include going to vet school, and she spends her extra time climbing at nearby climbing areas.
Christiana
Wildlife Care Intern
Ana has always been an avid animal lover with high hopes of pursuing a career caring for wildlife. She has experience working at zoos both in Oregon and abroad, and wanted to branch out her education to a different aspect of animal care with a veterinary focus. She has had a blast achieving this goal with CWC so far!
Emma
Wildlife Care Intern
Emma is earning her bachelor’s degree in Fisheries & Wildlife at OSU and hopes to attend vet school after graduation. She plans to care for wildlife for the rest of her life because it brings her so much joy. In the past, she has worked as a wildland firefighter for Boise district BLM.
Johanna S
Wildlife Care Intern
Johanna is a senior Zoology student at OSU. Since beginning as a volunteer in 2018 and nearing completion of a year-long internship at CWC, she has found an interest in wildlife rehabilitation and may pursue a related career in the future. Johanna has always had a passion for animals and loves putting that to good use with native Oregon wildlife.
Alex
Wildlife Care Intern
Alex has experience working with wildlife at both the Oregon Zoo and Cascades Raptor Center. After graduating from University of Oregon with a degree in Marine Biology, she longed to reconnect with wildlife and be a part of a wildlife rehab community, which brought her to the Chintimini Wildlife Center. Alex is working to gain more hands-on experience and gain knowledge about rehab to help her on her way to becoming a wildlife rehabilitator in her own right.
Bailey
Wildlife Care Intern
Bailey recently earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from UC Davis. She chose to intern with CWC after learning about the rehabilitation center from family living in Willamette Valley. She has enjoyed the Oregon wildlife, scenery, and weather since moving from California. Bailey hopes to gain wildlife care and handling experience and knowledge of Oregon’s native species from her year-long internship, and she aspires to ultimately work in animal care at an AZA-accredited zoo or sanctuary.
Nikole
Wildlife Care Intern
Nikole is a Senior at OSU studying biology with the goal of attending vet school. She hopes to work with wildlife as a veterinarian and is completing a year-long internship at CWC. She has enjoyed gaining a wide variety of knowledge and experience handling and caring for Oregon’s native wildlife. Her favorite animals to work with are raptors!
Emily
Wildlife Care Intern
Emily graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in environmental studies. Since then, she has struggled to find something she is passionate about. After working at the Alabama 4-H Science School as an environmental educator, where she was constantly working with the education ambassadors, she knew she wanted to work helping to conserve wildlife. Emily chose to intern at CWC because she wanted to learn more about the rehabilitation process, from intake to release back into the wild. Emily hopes to work with animals in one way or another whether that be through rehabilitation or education.
Rachael
Birds of Prey Intern
Rachael is a student at OSU and is completing a B.S. in Zoology with minors in Chemistry and Writing. She started her animal care journey 10 years ago at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden in South Carolina as an education volunteer. Rachael hopes to continue working for zoos and aquariums in the realm of animal husbandry and education in order to promote conservation efforts. She interns (and volunteers!) in the raptor program at CWC because it combines local outreach efforts while practicing hands-on experience handling and caring for birds of prey.
